Not For Profit Yoga Studio in Howell, NJ Makes Yoga Affordable or All

Yoga Peace Kula founder Hal Ornstein had a specific vision in mind when he began building out the studio in Howell - located on Route 9 North just before the Southard Firehouse. He understood the value of the ancient practice of yoga and wanted to build a place where everyone could access it. "Sometimes the perception of what yoga "is" prevents people from trying it", Ornstein suggested. "People think yoga is expensive and only for young, mostly female, bendy bodies." In fact, yoga, which is the union of mind, body and spirit, can be practiced by everyone. "Yes, we have young people at our studio", Ornstein explained, "But we also have older adults and plenty of men who attend our classes." There is a cost to attend classes at Yoga Peace Kula, but the prices is less than average studios, and the studio offers financial assistance as well through an application program and a work-study program. "We certainly will work with anyone who wants to come to our studio. We do not want cost to be the barrier between the student and a crucial tool in a healthy lifestyle."

There is a wide variety of classes taught at Yoga Peace Kula - by a team of experienced teachers -and the Kula offers diverse workshops and trainings. Yoga Peace Kula is also sponsoring a program to introduce mindfulness in schools. Through a variety of programs for public school teachers, guidance counselors and administrators, the studio strives to equip educators with skills in mindfulness, breathing and stress reduction that they in turn can take to their students. "We want adults and children to learn skills that can help them lead happier, more productive lives", stated Yoga Peace Kula director, Summer Quashie. "It has been shown through various studies that people who can effectively deal with life stresses through peaceful practices are less likely to turn to drastic measures such as drugs as coping skills. Through careful training we can make the practice of yoga a sustaining part of everyday life."
