2 Children, Woman Hit By 18-Wheeler In Jersey City
The trio were on the way to school when the accident happened, officials said.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — A woman and two children were taken to the hospital on Wednesday morning after a truck hit them on their way to school in Jersey City, local officials said.
The woman and two children were crossing the street near the intersection of Ocean and Wilkinson avenues around 8:43 a.m. when the light changed, officials said. An 18-wheeler truck that had stopped mid-block continued, striking the three, said officials.
A crossing guard was helping pedestrians get across at the time, officials said.

CBS News quoted witnesses as saying that a woman, boy, and girl were hit, and the crossing guard screamed when she saw the incident.
All three victims were taken to the hospital, according to officials. Police are investigating.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy and my thoughts are with the family and everyone impacted by this incident," Mayor James Solomon said. "As a father, I am heartbroken. At this time, the incident is under investigation by the JCPD, and they will provide more details after completion of the investigation.”
Information on the victims' conditions was not available as of noon on Wednesday.
