Police said a valet at a Jersey City luxury building was held up at gunpoint by a group of men who stole 4 cars. The cars were recovered.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A group of men held up a valet at gunpoint in the garage of a Jersey City luxury apartment building on Saturday night and drove off with four cars, police confirmed on Tuesday.

The cars were all recovered by Tuesday morning in Newark, the city said.

Sources forwarded an email sent Sunday by the management of Modera Lofts on Warren Street, saying, "It has been brought to our attention that four vehicles parked at our community were stolen. We do not wish to alarm you, but we did want you to be aware of the incident. We share your concern and are fully cooperating...we have increased courtesy patrols."

The vehicles were: A white BMW X4, a white Audi Q3, a silver BMW 340, and a gray Audi S3.

All four vehicles were recovered in Newark by Tuesday morning.

The apartment building is in the city's growing downtown area, four blocks from the Hudson River.

"The investigation is active and ongoing," police said, and did not share further details.

The message from Modera on Warren Street told residents, "As our knowledge of the details is limited, you can contact the local police department directly if you have any questions or information regarding the incident. Please also note that this is an ongoing investigation."

The note said that besides increasing patrols, they have "asked local authorities to visit our community more often and are discussing additional measures we can take to address this incident."

A number of armed robberies of high-end cars have occurred in North Jersey recently. Two weeks ago, according to police, a group of men and women held up a man at his Millburn home and took off in his Porsche, which was found in Jersey City.
