JERSEY CITY, NJ — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting of two 23-year-old women in Jersey City earlier this month.

Shahid Jamison, 22, of Jersey City, was arrested Thursday and charged with attempted murder, conspiracy, aggravated assault, and weapons charges, said Jersey City public safety spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.

As previously reported, two women were shot outside in the area of Rutgers and Chapel avenues early on May 6.

Police found a 23-year-old woman who had sustained gunshot wounds to her legs, and another woman who had sustained a gunshot wound to the foot.

Police put out a "be on the lookout" alert for Jamison.

Two police found him on Thursday night in front of 288 Martin Luther King Drive, among a group of people, officials said.

Officials noted that on the same day, Jersey City police found a suspect in connection with a Syracuse homicide after Syracuse officers had put out a be on the lookout alert. That suspect was brought to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office, officials said.

“These cases show the importance of coordination beyond city lines, because violent crime investigations often require law enforcement agencies to share information, move fast, and stay focused on getting dangerous individuals into custody,” said Deputy Chief Mark Conroy.

Anyone with information related to these or other incidents is asked to contact the Jersey City Police Department or submit tips anonymously through email at policetips@njjcps.org or by calling 855-JCP-TIPS.
