According to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office, at approximately 2:30 a.m. on that date, police were notified of shots fired on Orient Avenue near MLK Jr. Drive.

Police found Tejada with apparent gunshot wounds. He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, prosecutors said.

A second victim, a 45-year-old male from Jersey City, was found on Jackson Square with an apparent gunshot wound, prosecutors said.

Rhett was arrested on Sunday by members of the United States Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force in Raleigh, prosecutors said.

Besides the murder charge, he was charged with three counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons violations, prosecutors said.

Rhett is being held at the Wake County Detention Center to await extradition to New Jersey.

Services were held for Tejeda, described in his obituary as a father of three, on Sunday.
