Patricia’s active lifestyle and retail job were sidelined by severe hip pain. After cortisone shots failed to provide relief, she was referred to Ferheen Shamim, M.D., a sports medicine specialist at Hackensack Meridian Palisades Medical Center. Using ultrasound, Dr. Shamim diagnosed Patricia with tendinosis—micro-tears and dead tissue in her gluteal tendons—and recommended a minimally invasive procedure called Tenex. Using a small incision and a specialized tool, Dr. Shamim removed the damaged tissue to stimulate healing. Patricia experienced no pain during the procedure and her hip was completely cured.

A year later, when Patricia developed a tear in her right elbow, she returned to Dr. Shamim. To help her avoid a major surgery, Dr. Shamim treated the elbow with a second Tenex procedure combined with a Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injection, a technique that uses platelets from the patient's own blood to promote natural healing.

The combined treatments provided almost immediate relief and a smooth recovery. Today, Patricia is back on her feet and taking daily walks with her dog and her husband. She was so pleased with the results that she is working with Dr. Shamim on a future PRP treatment to keep her joints healthy, and even recommended the doctor to one of her retail customers.
