North Jersey Man Killed His Sister Over A Cell Phone: Police

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A Jersey City woman who died in a hospital last month had told police that her brother beat her because his cell phone was missing, records show.

Last Friday, Alerjuan Bradley, 40, of Jersey City was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his sister, Yanesha Bradley, 47, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office announced this week.

Prosecutors said Alerjuan Bradley beat his sister in her Jersey City home back on April 13.

Police responded to a 911 call around 11:40 p.m. and found Bradley crying in a chair with multiple injuries, according to an affidavit in the case.

"Officers proceeded upstairs and located Bradley seated in a chair, crying, visibly upset, and suffering from obvious facial injuries," the affidavit says. "She repeatedly stated that her brother had beaten her, punched her, slapped her, bitten her hand, and slammed her into a corner."

Bradley told police that her brother had attacked her over a missing cell phone.

Bradley displayed a bite mark on her right hand, and had a swollen left eye and bloody lip, according to the affidavit.

Bradley said her brother "became angry over his missing phone, pulled her from her bed, and assaulted her," the affidavit says.

Bradley was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where she became unconscious shortly after arriving.

Her "neurological condition rapidly deterorated," the affidavit says.

Medical providers initially said she had fractured her left cheek bone, the affidavit says.

A CT scan showed that she also had a large left-sided acute subdural hematoma, or a brain bleed. "The bleeding had caused the brain to shift to the right approximately 2.5 centimeters," the affadavit says.

Testing also showed a rib fracture and acute kidney injury, police said.

Bradley remained at the hospital for 53 days until her death on June 5, police said.

On June 7, the regional medical examiner ruled the cause of death to be complications from blunt force injuries to her head, and the manner of death to be homicide.

Alerjuan Bradley had originally been arrested on a charge of aggravated assault in April, the affidavit says.

This past Friday, he was charged with first-degree murder and taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, prosecutors said.
