Prosecutors say a Kia Soul struck the man around 2:20 a.m. and fled, sparking a weeks-long investigation. A Bayonne resident now faces multiple charges and is free pending his first court appearance.

Kennedy Boulevard starting Monday, Aug. 24, as an 18βmonth safety and streetscape project gets underway. Expect phased work on sidewalks, ADA ramps, traffic signals, paving, and street trees aimed at making this key corridor safer and more welcoming. Officials urge extra travel time and close attention to detours and signage.

Jersey City Council appoints Sean Nolan new tax collector via rare 5-1(3) tally (hudsoncountyview.com) β Jersey City's council has narrowly appointed Sean Nolan as the new tax collector for a four-year term, despite confusion over the city's residency requirement for the position. Several council members abstained or voted no, arguing the city should prioritize qualified Jersey City residents and resolve waiver rules, especially with more than 140 PILOT deals and payroll tax oversight on the line.

5. $250K scratch-off bombshell hits Jersey City newsstand (shorenewsnetwork.com) β A Jersey City newsstand on Kennedy Boulevard just sold a $250,000 winning scratch-off, putting a big spotlight on local shop State News. The Quarter Million Ca$h ticket, recorded Sunday, Aug. 16, was purchased at 2984 Kennedy Blvd. While lottery officials named the store and game, they're keeping the lucky player's identity under wraps.
