JERSEY CITY, NJ — Jersey City will have a new mayor next week, but if you're a critic of current Mayor James Solomon, don't get too excited. It's just for a week or so.
Solomon will travel out of state from this Monday through Sept. 5 to attend his godson's baptism and visit his family, a spokesperson said.
The mayor will continue to be briefed by his senior team to ensure city government continues operating without interruption, a spokesperson said.
As provided under the state's Faulkner Act, which sets rules about forms of city government in New Jersey, Solomon has designated Business Administrator Ruby Choi as acting mayor for the duration of his trip.
Choi will manage day-to-day operations alongside the mayor's senior leadership team.
Hoping she'll be able to single-handedly solve the 15 percent tax increase? Who knows. Read more about that issue and others on Jersey City Patch here.
