Jersey City Gets New Mayor (Sort Of) (patch.com) β Jersey City residents will see Business Administrator Ruby Choi step in as acting mayor while Mayor James Solomon travels out of state through Sept. 5 for family reasons. City officials say Solomon will stay in close contact with his senior team, and Choi will oversee daily operations to keep services running smoothly, as residents continue to watch issues like the recent 15 percent tax increase.

Safety work to begin on one of Jersey City's most dangerous roads (gothamist.com subscription) β Drivers, bus riders, cyclists, and pedestrians around Journal Square should brace for an 18βmonth safety overhaul of JFK Boulevard and part of Bergen Avenue starting Monday, with lane closures and temporary bus stops but roads remaining open. The $6.8 million federally funded project will add curb extensions, better crosswalks, new signals, and improved lighting to make one of Jersey City's most dangerous corridors safer.

A Fresh Cut and a Fresh Start: Jersey City Event Helps Kids Prepare for School (tapinto.net) β Jersey City families can snag free haircuts, braiding, and school supplies for kids at Biscott Styles' second annual Back-to-School Giveback on Saturday, September 6. The Journal Square barbershop aims to ease back-to-school costs while boosting students' confidence and connecting families with supportive local businesses and resources.
