Bloomfield Woman, 21, Dies In Early Morning Crash With Tractor Trailer In Jersey City

A car flipped over and a Bloomfield woman, 21, died in a crash with a tractor trailer early this morning on a Jersey City highway.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 21-year-old Bloomfield woman died and two Newark men were hospitalized early Friday morning after their car crashed with a tractor trailer on the ramp leading to Routes 1 and 9 in Jersey City, prosecutors said.

The office of Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said that at approximately 2:15 a.m. Friday, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a serious motor vehicle collision in the area of the Routes 1 and 9 North ramp on Route 139 West.

Officers encountered a tractor trailer and a 2018 Audi passenger vehicle that had been involved in a collision, they said.

The Audi was found flipped on its roof with extensive damage.

The male driver of the Audi and two passengers were transported to Jersey City Medical Center
by Emergency Medical Services, prosecutors said.

A female passenger, tentatively identified as a 21-year-old from Bloomfield, was pronounced dead at approximately 2:54 a.m., police said.

The 22-year-old male driver, from Newark, and the 23-year-old male passenger, also from Newark, remain at Jersey City Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The 53-year-old male driver of the tractor trailer, who remained at the scene, was not
injured in the collision, police said.

During the preliminary investigation, the driver of the Audi was issued a motor vehicle summons
by the responding Jersey City police officers, prosecutors said, but they did not state what the summons was for.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating the case.
