Bomb Threat Closes New Jersey City University; No Bomb Found

University officials were notified of the threat Friday morning by Jersey City police.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A bomb threat prompted authorities to evacuate the New Jersey City University campus on Friday; however, an investigation later determined the threat was unfounded, according to a statement posted on the college's website.

NJCU officials were notified of the threat Friday morning by Jersey City police, according to NJ.com. A Jersey City spokeswoman told NJ.com that police received a call reporting a suspicious package on campus.

College officials canceled all Friday activities and classes after asking students and staff to evacuate.

After investigating the threat, Jersey City police found nothing suspicious, according to the university's statement.

"They have now given us the all clear and, effective immediately, the campus is returning to normal operations," the statement read.

After the campus was cleared, students were allowed to return to main campus residence halls, officials said. Employees were not expected to return to work unless told otherwise by their supervisors.
