Driver Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run Of Hudson County Woman

A man was charged Tuesday in the death of a Hudson County woman.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A man who fatally struck a Hudson County woman two days after last Christmas — and left the scene — was arrested Tuesday, officials said.

Tomas Amelcolima, 42, of West New York, was charged in the death of Fabiola Bedoya, 83, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said that on Dec. 27, Amelcolima struck Bedoya around 5:40 p.m., near 30th Street and Palisades Avenue in Union City.

Bedoya, a Union City resident, was pronounced dead around 6:15 p.m. that night.

After an investigation, Amelcolima was charged with second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in death, and second-degree death by auto.

He was taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility to await his first court appearance, prosecutors said.
