BAYONNE, NJ —An 81-year-old Jersey City man was treated at a local hospital for facial injuries Tuesday after an alleged road rage incident in Bayonne, according to NJ.com.

Police sources said the incident occurred at around 10:48 a.m. in the area of Hook Road and Route 440 near the Bayonne Crossing shopping center.

The victim told police that he got into an argument with the driver of another vehicle who was stopped behind him at a red light.

At that point, according to the victim, the other driver got out of his vehicle and retrieved an object from the trunk of his car, which police later described as a fiberglass object.

The alleged assailant then approached the first vehicle and, through the open driver's side window, beat the victim in the head, causing what authorities said were injuries to the victim's left eye and face.

Police said the alleged assailant then fled.

Bayonne police on Wednesday said they could offer no further details about the incident because it was an open investigation.
