Grandma Falls Down Jersey City Elevator Shaft As Kid Watches: Report

A neighbor released video after a Jersey City senior citizen fell down an elevator shaft just after picking up her granddaughter at school.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A grandmother tumbled down an elevator shaft in Jersey City Tuesday, right after picking up her granddaughter at school, NBC reported on Wednesday.

Neighbors rushed to help the confused child, while the grandmother, in her 70s, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, NBC said.

Neighbors said that building management had not responded to several other problems, and that managers plan to meet with residents later this week.

The building — identified by Hudson County View as 11 Gifford Ave., on the city's west side — is one of several in Jersey City whose tenants have complained about major elevator problems and lagging repairs, without enough enforcement. See the NBC story here.
