Injured Hudson County Nanny Released From Hospital After Car Strike

A nanny was struck by a car while pushing two children in a stroller in Hudson County, police say.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A nanny struck by a car in Hudson County while pushing two children in a stroller earlier this month has been released from the hospital after suffering injuries including broken bones, authorities announced Tuesday.

According to the Hoboken Police Department, the incident took place in the area of 5th and Monroe streets in Hoboken around 10:48 a.m. on Sept. 15.

Police said that a 2017 Honda Accord struck the victim, a 54-year-old Union resident and nanny who was pushing a double stroller with two young children inside, as she traversed the crosswalk from the east to the west side of Monroe Street.

The woman was struck in the hip and suffered broken bones and injuries to the leg, face and foot area. Emergency responders transported her to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment, Hoboken police said.

The children in the stroller were not struck or harmed, and were later released to the parents after receiving precautionary medical attention, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, Leroy Sherrill, 28, of Jersey City, remained on scene and was cooperative with police, authorities stated.

“There did not appear to be any vehicle malfunction or other factors that contributed to the accident other than driver inattention,” police stated.

Hoboken police issued Sherrill multiple motor vehicle traffic summonses including Failure to Stop, Careless Driving and Failure to Stop for Pedestrian at a Crosswalk.
