Jersey City And Hoboken Named Among 'Best Places To Live In America'

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Two cities in Hudson County were among the handful of New Jersey towns named in Niche.com's Best Places to Live in America in 2024 list, released Tuesday.

Hoboken and Jersey City were among the handful of New Jersey towns to land on the national list. Eighteen Jersey towns and cities were on the list in total.

Factors considered include walkability, diversity, schools, the housing market, and more. The information comes from resident reviews, Census data, employment statistics, CDC numbers, and more.

While many may cheer the ranking, some residents have expressed fear that the two towns are becoming unaffordable.

The list, now in its 10th year, is intended to help everyone from young professionals to retirees decide where they want to live, the company says.

Niche analyzed 230 cities and more than 18,000 places to live.

Below are the cities and towns in New Jersey named among the Best Cities to Live in America:

• Closter
• Mountain Lakes
• Hoboken
• Upper Montclair
• Metuchen
• New Providence
• Summit
• Haworth
• Montogmery Township

• Jersey City
• Newark

Niche had separate lists for cities and for towns. For the first time, Naperville, Illinois, was named the best city, with The Woodlands, Texas; Cambridge, Massachusetts; Arlington, Virginia; and Plano, Texas, rounding out the top five.

The five best places to live, according to the ranking, are, respectively, Colonial Village, Virginia, a Washington, D.C., neighborhood; Carmel, Indiana; Chesterbrook, Pennsylvania; Uptown Tampa, Florida; and Cinco Ranch, Texas.
