Jersey City Police Arrest 3 Women, Recover 2 Guns In Drug Bust

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Jersey City police arrested three women Tuesday night during an investigation into suspected drug transactions on Storms Avenue, police said.

Carmen Figueroa, 70, Anita Alfred, 45, and Melissa Rivera, 45, all of Jersey City, were taken into custody on Tuesday, police said.

Police said that their Street Crimes Unit conducted an investigation around 9 p.m. on Tuesday. They found two illegal guns, hollow-point ammunition, and various suspected controlled dangerous substances, including suspected crack cocaine and heroin.

The charges were:

• Figueroa was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, and other drug possession and weapons charges.
• Alfred was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and a count of bail jumping.
• Rivera was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and four counts of bail jumping.

"The JCPD’s Street Crimes Unit is out in Jersey City every single day doing this kind of work to make our community safer,” said Mayor James Solomon.

“Taking dangerous firearms away from people who are prohibited from possessing them translates to lives saved and crimes prevented,” said Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.
