Jersey City Residents Push for Urgent Traffic Safety Reforms
Bergen-Lafayette Traffic Reform Warriors to address Council on Monticello Ave safety concerns amid rising incidents.
JERSEY CITY, NJ - A grassroots community group, the Bergen-Lafayette Traffic Reform Warriors, is taking action to address growing concerns over pedestrian and cyclist safety in Ward F. The group, made up of over 50 engaged residents, will present their concerns at the upcoming Jersey City Council meeting on January 29, 2025, urging officials to implement critical safety measures along the Monticello Avenue corridor.
The group believes that immediate action is needed to protect the community from the dangers posed by high-speed vehicles and delayed infrastructure improvements. Recent incidents, include a mother and child being struck by a vehicle on nearby Summit Avenue and rushed to the trauma unit, have heightened the urgency for action. Despite the Jersey City Division of Transportation Planning identifying quick solutions such as signage to prevent no-right-on-red violations, implementation has been slow.
The group's efforts focus on advocating for practical, data-driven solutions such as expanded bike lanes, traffic calming measures, and better enforcement of existing traffic laws.
