Man Dies Of Injuries From Jersey City Shooting, Teen Charged With Murder

A 34-year-old man has died from injuries in a May 8 Jersey City shooting, and a teen has been charged with murder.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 32-year-old man has died of injuries sustained in a May 8 shooting in Jersey City, and an 18-year-old man has been charged with his murder.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said that Reginald Williams of Jersey City passed away on May 25.

The office said that at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Forrest Street and Martin Luther King Drive on reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers Williams lying in the street near 299 Forrest St. with apparent gunshot wounds to his torso.

He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center to be treated.

Isiah Smith, 18, of Jersey City, was arrested at his home on May 17 in connection with the shooting. A handgun, high capacity magazine, and hollow point bullets were recovered, the prosecutor's office said.

Smith has been charged with first-degree murder, as well as five weapons charges and a charge of receiving stolen property.

During the course of the investigation, the Jersey City Police Department determined that the victim had an open warrant. He was placed into the custodial care of the Jersey City Police Department and the Hudson County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at Jersey City Medical Center until the time of his death.
