Man Found Guilty In 2018 Jersey City Murder: Prosecutor

A 24-year-old Jersey City man was convicted of the murder of a 23-year-old man from Bayonne.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — James Crawford, 24, of Jersey City, was convicted on Thursday of murder for his role in the shooting death of Eric Crocker, 23, of Bayonne, in Jersey City on Sept. 4, 2018, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said.

A jury convicted Crawford of first degree murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

On Sept. 4, 2018, around 5:55 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of gunshots in the area of Lembeck Avenue and Ocean Avenue in Jersey City, the prosecutors said.
Police found Crocker with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. He was pronounced dead at 6:30.

The verdict against Crawford was delivered before Superior Court Judge Angelo Servidio following a four-week trial.

The jury was hung on the conspiracy to commit murder charge against Crawford and could not reach a unanimous decision on the murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges brought
against codefendant Alexander Harris, 33, of Jersey City, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said.

The Prosecutor's Office intends to have Harris re-tried on those charges, they said.

A third codefendant, Jahmir Thomas, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated assault on April 23, 2021, they said.
