Man On Motorized Bike Fatally Struck Hudson County Woman: Prosecutors

A man on a motorized bicycle was charged Thursday in the death of a Kearny woman.

KEARNY, NJ — A man on a motorized bicycle was arrested Thursday for having fatally struck a woman in Kearny in February, prosecutors said.

Miguel Aguilar, 44, of Harrison was charged with second-degree causing death while driving suspended, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office on Friday.

Prosecutors said he struck Sheila Cruz, 72, on Kearny Avenue shortly after 8 a.m. on Feb. 11.

She was taken to University Hospital in Newark and pronounced dead on Feb. 15.

During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that Aguilar did not have a valid license or registration to operate the motorized bicycle, prosecutors said.

Aguilar was released to await a court appearance on May 12, prosecutors said.
