March For Our Lives In Jersey City Saturday

The local event will be held in support of the national event in Washington DC.

Families, students, and concerned citizens of the region will converge on Jersey City on Saturday for a sister march of the “March For Our Lives” event taking place in Washington, D.C. The local march begins at 10 a.m. at Ferris High School, 35 Colgate St.

The non-partisan march is calling for a gun control bill targeted at ending school shootings. Marches are planned for most major cities, similar to how the Women's March was set up, and is spearheaded by five Florida students survived the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine’s Day. Seventeen people were killed in that shooting.

"In February, seventeen people lost their lives in the Parkland shooting, an incident that has since become the catalyst for a nationwide movement of students and community members calling for meaningful gun reform.

"On Saturday, Jersey City students, teachers, parents and residents will join in on the movement. Throughout the nation, nearly 900 communities will be participating in March for Our Lives to fight for gun reform laws that will help prevent mass shootings like the one we saw in Parkland, and have seen far too many times before.
