'Dangerous' Man Wanted In Murder Of NJ Father of 11: Authorities

An "armed and dangerous" man stabbed a father of 11 to death in front of his children in a sneaker robbery, authorities say.

UPDATE: Nasiar Day, a man who was sought on murder charges in connection with an incident on Palisade Avenue in Jersey City earlier this week, was arrested on Nov. 16. Homicide detectives arrested Day, 19, of Newark at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Broad Street in Newark without incident.

He was processed and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny. Day was expected to have his first appearance in CJR Court in the CJP Courtroom in the Hudson County Administration Building.

ORIGINAL STORY: A manhunt is on for the killer of a New Jersey father of 11 children who was stabbed to death this week while defending his 8-year-old son during a sneaker robbery, authorities say. Nasiar Day, 19, of Newark has been charged with murder and several related charges in the death of Jose Malave, 30, of Jersey City.

Malave was found Tuesday in the doorway of his apartment. He was pronounced dead at the scene at about 7:25 p.m., according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

Malave died in front of his girlfriend and several of his children hours after teens nearly stole his son's sneakers. Malave's sister, Yesenia Malave, told nj.com the teens then went to Malave's apartment, where the murder occurred.

Anyone who knows Nasiar Day's current whereabouts is asked to contact the Hudson County prosecutor’s office homicide unit at (201) 915-1345, or leave an anonymous tip on the Hudson County prosecutor’s office website at http://www.hudsoncountyprosecutorsofficenj.org/homicide-tip/.

"Nasiar Day should not be approached and he should be considered armed and dangerous," according to the HCPO.

At about 7 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a male stabbed at 197 Palisade Avenue in Jersey City. Upon arrival shortly after 7:05 p.m., the responding police officers found Emergency Medical Services giving aid to the stabbing victim, according to the HCPO.

The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

A 17-year-old male juvenile from Jersey City was arrested in connection with the death of Malave. He has been charged as a juvenile with murder, armed burglary and several related offenses, according to the HCPO.

The HCPO is actively investigating the case with assistance from the Jersey City police department.
