LACEY, NJ — Two young Girl Scouts from Lacey are being honored for earning the Silver Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can get.

Vassi and Katrina received a proclamation from the Lacey Township Committee to celebrate the 50 hours they put into helping out a local dog foster with puppies.

The two helped brush fleas, give baths, name the dogs and meet with potential adopters, Mayor Tim McDonald said.

Vassi and Katrina told the Committee that they had got seven dogs adopted, but did not adopt any for themselves, though they had wanted to.

The Committee commended them for their "outstanding accomplishment."

"Not too many people get to have that opportunity to help out in a situation like this," Committeewoman PeggySue Juliano said. "And really, those puppies, those kisses that you get from those puppies are probably the best part of all of it."

Commiteeman Steven Kennis also commended the girls' parents for their work raising them.

Vassi and Katrina told the Committee that the work "felt really good."
