40K Respond To NJ Walmart Party, But You Shouldn't Show Up

The self checkout employee party has turned into a real donation drive at the Lacey Elks, so don't show up at Walmart, police say.

Police are on call if anyone tries actually having a party at the Lanoka Harbor Walmart on Dec. 15.

LACEY, NJ — What started as a satirical Facebook event has now garnered 40,000 RSVPs from people across the country.

But the "Walmart Self Checkout Employee Christmas Party" isn't going to happen at the Lanoka Harbor Walmart, so don't actually show up.

Walmart corporate was apparently not interested in having an event at that location on Dec. 15, the day set on the event, according to organizer Andrew Delgado.

"I was told that the local police departments are going to on standby on the 15th so please do not show up there to cause any kind of ruckus," Delgado wrote on the Facebook page.

But there is a real event going on Dec. 15, at the Lacey Elks Lodge.

"The True Spirit Of Christmas" starts at 6:30 p.m. Delgado asked that attendees bring an unwrapped gift for a child to go to the Lacey Food Bank Kids, food for the Lacey Food Bank or pet food/blankets for the Popcorn Park Zoo.

The real party will have hot chocolate and pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will deliver the items on their sleigh at a later date, according to the Elks.

Those unable to attend physically can donate toys to the Self-Checkout Employee Party wishlist or directly to Popcorn Park.

Gifts have already been coming in, Delgado's wife, Nicole, shared on the page. Not just toys, but formula, diapers and more have been donated, she said.
