LACEY, NJ — You might not have to wait much longer for ALDI to open in Forked River. The supermarket will open "later this summer," according to ALDI Center Valley Division Vice President Bob Grammer.

Grammer did not reveal a grand opening date but said additional details will come closer to that time.

Lacey residents have been waiting almost a year for ALDI to open. The Asbury Park Press reported in August that ALDI planned to open a new store in the Sunrise Plaza on Route 9. Staples, the space's former tenant, closed in June 2018.

ALDI, which currently owns 1,800 stores in the US, plans to expand across nationally and have nearly 2,500 stores by 2022. The grocer also said in the August announcement that it plans to increase its fresh food selection by 40 percent.

Their grand opening page doesn't list the Lacey location yet. But several of ALDI's new locations features deals and contests, such as the opportunity to win free produce for a year.
