LACEY, NJ — Opening Day 2026 for Lacey Girls Softball included a tribute to the league’s founder, Peter Myles, with the dedication of a field at Gille Park.
During the ceremony, Field #2 at Gille Park was officially dedicated and renamed Myles Field. The dedication recognized Myles’ role in founding Lacey Girls Softball in 1973 and his long connection to the township program.
According to the announcement, Myles created opportunities for girls in Lacey Township to take part in organized athletics when he started the league more than five decades ago. The program has since served generations of players, who benefited from the chance to build skills, confidence and friendships through softball.
The field dedication was part of the league’s Opening Day observance for the 2026 season. Myles was joined by family and friends for the ceremony.
Myles also threw out the ceremonial first pitch to open the new season.
League officials described the moment as a tribute to the legacy Myles created. That legacy, the announcement said, continues to shape the community today through the softball program he founded.
