LACEY, NJ — A June 6 pottery paint and pizza party in Forked River brought about 120 guests together for an afternoon centered on art, food and time with friends, according to a press release from the Lacey Elks Lodge #2518 Special Children's Committee.
The event was hosted by the lodge's Special Children's Committee and organized and staffed by 20 committee members, along with four members of the Lacey Elks Antlers youth group, according to the committee. The gathering focused on children with special needs and their families, the committee said.
Each child received a ceramic stepping stone to paint and decorate with their own paints, brushes and aprons, according to the committee. After finishing their projects, the children took the stepping stones home. Pizza and refreshments were also served during the event, which gave families a chance to spend time together in what the committee described as a welcoming and supportive setting.
"Seeing the smiles on the faces of these young artists is what our Special Children's Committee is all about," said committee members. "Providing opportunities for children with special needs to have fun, express themselves creatively, and make lasting memories is one of the most rewarding things we do."
The committee reported that the room was filled with laughter, creativity and excitement as children showed their painted pieces to others. The event was designed to give children a hands-on activity while also creating space for families to connect during the afternoon.
The Special Children's Committee continues to support children with special needs and their families through programs, outings and events held throughout the year.
