The presentation will be led by Melissa Kozlowski, curator of the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music at Monmouth University. According to the program description, Kozlowski will discuss how music helped Americans mourn, remember and heal after 9/11.

The multimedia program will look at both existing songs and new music that connected with the public during that period. According to the library announcement, the presentation will include the emotional impact of Whitney Houston's national anthem and the message of "Hero" by Mariah Carey.

The program also will center on Bruce Springsteen's "The Rising." According to the announcement, the discussion will examine how the song reflected grief, courage and hope in the months after the attacks.

The event is free, but registration is required. People who want to attend can register online at tinyurl.com/ResilienceOCL, call 609-693-8566 or visit the Lacey Branch in person at 10 East Lacey Road, Forked River.

Registration opens Aug. 27, according to the library. The program is being held in honor of Patriot Day, which commemorates the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
