4 Events To Explore This Weekend In Ocean County

As summer winds down, Ocean County residents have several ways to get out and enjoy the weekend.

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — As summer winds down, Ocean County residents have several ways to get out and enjoy the weekend, with family activities, live entertainment, craft breweries, classic vehicles and even a chance to explore the unexplained.

Here are four events happening Saturday, Aug. 29, and Sunday, Aug. 30, listed by date and time:

LBI PARACON

Saturday, Aug. 29 | 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Long Beach Island Historical Association Museum, 129 Engleside Ave., Beach Haven

History and the unexplained come together at LBI PARACON, a full-day paranormal and psychic experience at the LBI Historical Museum.

The event will feature expert-led presentations and demonstrations, paranormal vendors and artists, a curated haunted-objects room, historical insights into the 1882 museum building and opportunities to schedule appointments with a medium or tarot card reader. A food truck court will also be available.

The day experience runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the speaker series scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event also offers an after-dark VIP investigation experience. Proceeds support preservation of the LBI Historical Museum.

Toms River Volunteer Fire Co. 1 Block Party

Saturday, Aug. 29 | 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Washington Street between Main Street and Robbins Street, Toms River

Toms River Volunteer Fire Co. 1 will host a family-friendly block party featuring different craft breweries, live music, games and activities, fire trucks, raffles, food and more.

The event is an opportunity for residents to spend time with neighbors while supporting the local volunteer fire company.

Special Adoption Weekend

Saturday, Aug. 29-Sunday, Aug. 30 | 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
Ocean County Animal Facilities in Manahawkin and Jackson

The Ocean County Animal Facilities will mark Clear the Shelters with a special adoption weekend featuring 50 percent off adoption fees for all dogs and cats.

According to the Ocean County Health Department, pets available for adoption have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated as appropriate for their age and examined and cared for by the shelter veterinarian. Adopted pets will also go home with a complimentary goody bag.

The county's Manahawkin facility is at 360 Haywood Road, while the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility is at 615 Freemont Ave. in Jackson..

The Ocean County Health Department encourages prospective adopters to consider the long-term commitment involved in bringing a pet into the family.

Manahawkin Elks Lodge First Annual Car & Bike Show

Sunday, Aug. 30 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Manahawkin Elks Lodge #2340, 520 Hilliard Blvd., Manahawkin

Car and motorcycle enthusiasts can check out the Manahawkin Elks Lodge #2340's first annual Car & Bike Show.

Registration is $20, with no prepayment required. Trophies will be awarded in categories including Best in Show, Best Car, Best Truck, Best Bike, Lodge Choice and People's Choice.

The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 6.
