Beloved Lion At Popcorn Park Zoo Dies
Aslan, one of Popcorn Park's most beloved residents, has died after developing an aggressive form of cancer.

LACEY, NJ — One of the most iconic and beloved residents at the Popcorn Park Animal Refuge has died.
Aslan the lion died after recently developing a very aggressive form of cancer, zoo workers shared on social media. The cancer spread quickly, despite efforts of the veterinary team.
Aslan came to the zoo with his sister Savannah in 2022 after the two of them spent several years in different zoos. "We are deeply grateful to have provided Aslan with the stability and love he so greatly deserved," Popcorn Park staff said.

He quickly became a fan favorite with his curious and social nature.
"Aslan and Savannah were delighted in their newly renovated habitat, with perches to bask on, boulders to climb, new vegetation to smell and chew, along with fresh grass to roll in," zoo staff said. "Best of all, Aslan always loved surprises from his caretakers, especially new toys and enrichment boxes filled with treats and enticing scents like catnip!"

Aslan passed peacefully, with his sister by his side.
"While understandably saddened by her brother’s passing, we are providing Savannah with the extra care and attention she needs during this difficult time," staff said. "We are so grateful for all your support and love towards Aslan, it’s because of you that we could provide him with a life filled with peace, care, and compassion."
