Best Teacher Essay Contest Returns To Lacey Applebee's

LACEY, NJ — Does your child's teacher go above the rest? Students can nominate their favorite educator for an award through the Doherty-owned Applebee's 2026 Above & “BEE”yond Teacher Essay Contest.

This year, Doherty-owned Applebee’s will recognize eight exceptional teachers from New Jersey with a $500 classroom sponsorship and an end-of-year class party at Applebee’s, the eatery announced in a news release.

The contest runs from now through March 15, 2026. All essays must be submitted in person to the Applebee’s General Manager or manager on duty at participating Doherty-owned Applebee’s locations - including the Lacey location - no later than 10 p.m. on March 15, 2026. Winners will be announced on Friday, April 24, 2026, and end-of-year parties must be scheduled before Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

“Teachers are the backbone of our communities, and this contest is one way we can give back to the classrooms that give so much to our kids,” said Timothy Doherty, President and COO of Doherty Enterprises. “We’re honored to support local educators through our annual contest which provides direct classroom sponsorships and celebrations that recognize their dedication.”

How to enter:

• Students must nominate a teacher who currently teaches in one of the eligible New Jersey counties.
• Middle and high school students: submit a 500-word essay explaining why their teacher deserves to be Applebee’s Teacher of the Year.
• Elementary students: submit a half-page essay on why their teacher deserves the honor.
• Essays must be submitted in person to the General Manager or manager on duty at the student’s local Doherty-owned Applebee’s. Limit one entry per student.
