Christine A. Maggio Of Forked River Dies At 47

Christine A. Maggio (nee Berndt) “Chris”, 47 of Forked River died on Friday April 24, 2015 at Community Medical Center, Toms River after a courageous eleven-year battle with cancer.

She was born in Neptune and lived in Toms River before moving to Forked River in 1995. Chris had been employed as a teacher with the Lacey Township Board of Education from 2006 to present. She worked in in all the schools of Lacey Township. She was communicant and a very active member of St. Pius X R.C. Church.

Surviving are her husband of 23 years Ralph, two sons Anthony and Nicholas, her parents Patricia and Bruce Berndt, brother Bruce Berndt all of Forked River, sister Jacque Mulrane of Manahawkin, sister-in-law Donna Barrick of Avondale, PA and brother-in-law Marc Maggio of Wilmington, MA.

Her son Anthony paid tribute to his mother on her Facebook page:

“My mother was a very strong person, stronger than most of us ever could be, and continued fighting until her final moments. She fought against cancer for over ten years,” he wrote. ”In the last four months she began a very quick decline, and was confined to her bed. Even in the scariest moments of her life, she still managed to smile and touch those who came to take care of her as one of the most pleasant patients they had. She continued to display a positive attitude and fill everyone around her with love.”

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday April 30, 2015 at the Riggs Funeral Home 130 North Route 9, Forked River. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015St. Pius X R.C. Church. Cremation was private.
