Police urge motorists to avoid Lacey Road in the area of the Parkway.

LACEY, NJ — A truck hit the Lacey Road overpass on the Garden State Parkway Wednesday morning amid a multi-vehicle crash that has shut down the northbound lanes of the highway and Lacey Road as well, authorities said.

Alerts about the Parkway closure first went out shortly before 11 a.m. from the Ocean County Sheriff's office and 511nj.org, the NJ Department of Transportation site.

The DOT website said there were injuries but gave no indication of the severity or how many people were injured.

New Jersey State Police said the travel lanes northbound on the Parkway are closed in the area but motorists are getting by on the right shoulder. Further details would be released later, state police said.

Those seeking to reach western parts of Lacey from the eastern side (or vice versa) will have to go through Berkeley Township and Manchester, or south through Waretown to get there.
