by Patricia A. Miller
A Lacey Township policeman Friday helped an animal rescue group to humanely trap a skittish, frightened dog who had been spotted roaming the woods in Forked River recently.
A-Academy Animal Control Lost/Found Pets Of Ocean County put up a post on Facebook Friday morning with pictures of the rescued dog, and described him as ” a very friendly and healthy boy.”

“Would like to thank Officer Michael Hutman for his assistance in catching the dog lost in the woods in Forked River,” the post states. ”He spotted the dog on a trail and was able to catch him and he is now going to the Manahawkin shelter.”
The dog’s plight came to light with a recent post by a woman on the Lost and Found Pets Facebook page. She asked for help in finding out who owns him and if anyone could help trap him.

Here is her post:
“Do you recognize this dog? he’s wandering around in woods, hungry and scared to death, I would love to hear someone’s missing him. But he’s pretty far out in the woods. So I’m thinking he’s been dumped. My son, who hikes a lot, spotted him today, so sat out there for a few hours fed him, got some pictures. Very skittish, will sit again tomorrow. Any one interested in helping this poor boy, will need to trap. I cannot bring home already have house full. My dogs would not be nice. If I can’t get help for him, will have to call animal control and he’ll be taken to Manahawkin shelter and if he does not warm up, they will put him to sleep. To leave him out there is a death sentence, there are packs of coyotes. So if you know this dog, please contact me, or if you’d be willing to help him. Thanks.”
The woman originally posted the message on craigslist.com.
