Fire Drill Set For Monday At Old A's Garden Center In Lacey

Lacey and Berkeley fire companies will be participating in the drill. Route 9 will not be blocked but motorists are urged to be cautious.

LACEY, NJ — Firefighters from Lacey and Berkeley Township wil be participating in a drill Monday evening at the former A's Home & Garden Center on Route 9, Lacey Township officials announced.

The drill is scheduled to begin about 6:30 p.m. at the property on Route 9 and Haines Street, said Jack Conaty, the assistant fire chief for the Lanoka Harbor Fire Department, in an announcement on the Lacey Township website.

"You will see multiple emergency vehicles and personnel in the area operating on the property, training on various aspects of our job to better be able to provide you with the best response possible," the announcement said. "While we will not be obstructing any traffic patterns in the area, please utilize extreme caution in the area."

Entrance into the parking lot will be secured by fire police.

The property is slated to become a Lidl grocery store, though that project has been delayed for months due to legal battles, an Asbury Park Press report said.

Members of the following agencies are scheduled to be participating in the drill: Lanoka Harbor Fire Department, Forked River Fire Department, Bamber Lakes Fire Department, Bayville Fire Department and Lanoka Harbor EMS.
