Forked River Man Charged For DWI In Berkeley: Police

The man was driving erratically on Route 9 southbound, police said.

A Forked River man drove erratically on Route 9 southbound while under the influence Jan. 21, Berkeley police said.

Ricardo Vargas-Mendoza, 30, showed several signs of impairment such as slurred speech and slow fumbling hand movements, according to patrolman Jacob Camaraza. He was charged after taking field sobriety tests, police said.

Vargas-Mendoza was taken to police headquarters and later released to the care of a family member, according to police. Authorities issued him traffic summonses for reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, careless driving and unlicensed driving, according to police.

His vehicle was impounded as per John's Law, police said.
