"The enormous loss that this family has to endure has been brutal and instant," the GoFundMe reads. "The loss of both parents, their home, their pets, their security simply gone as they knew it."
The fundraiser's goal is to pay for the bills and living expenses of the two sons who no longer have their parents' financial support. The younger son now lives with his maternal aunt.

The family said that money will only go towards the needs of the sons, and anything extra will be donated to a local domestic violence shelter or non-profit in Cruz's name.
"Dawn was a lovely, peaceful woman who was passionate about her sons and their musical talents; her photography of nature and wildlife; her practice of yoga; animal rescue; as well as gardening and home improvement," the fundraiser said.
