Services Set For Drunk Driving Victim Who Was Stuck In Car Windshield

Lanoka Harbor man died from injures after being struck by a drunk driver in Waretown.

Services will be held for the Lacey man hit by a drunk driver while he was walking on Route 9, and ended up half inside the car windshield as it continued more than one mile.

Kenneth C. Moeller, 61, of the Lanoka Harbor section of Lacey died after he lost his leg and was on life support, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Authorities say that Marcos A. Ortega was heading northbound on Route 9 just north of South Main Street when he crossed into the northbound shoulder and struck Moeller, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ortega, 33, was charged with causing serious bodily injury to another while driving under the influence and with leaving the scene of an accident, Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and Ocean Township Police Chief Gerhard Frenz said in a statement.

Born in Lakewood, Moeller was raised in Bayville and lived there many years before moving to Lanoka Harbor.

According to the Mastapeter Funeral Home in the Bayville section of Berkeley, Moeller was a dedicated worker who was totally devoted to his family and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Debbie; his three daughters, Melissa Gregg and her husband Richard, Heather and Jennifer; his sister, Carol Durkin and his brother Daniel Moeller and three grandchildren, Joseph, Taylor and Michael.

A Memorial Gathering for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to the family will be greatly appreciated.
