Students Learn Drunken Driving 'Not Worth the Risk'

Police use simulators to teach effects of impaired driving to high school pupils

LBI police came to Lacey Township High School for a demonstration on drunken driving and how it impairs driving ability. They used two small race courses—one with a powered go-cart that the police officer controled with a remote and the other with a pedal-powered cart.

On the first race course, the student drives while the officer causes the cart to lose control or spin out. On the other course, the students are given goggles to wear that impairs their vision to make it harder to navigate the course.

When asked what they thought about drunken driving, senior Amy Vasquez said, "The consequences are not worth the risk."
