Intoxicated Driver Seriously Injures Pedestrian: Lacey Police

Police are looking for the public's help in identifying the woman who was struck.

LACEY, NJ — An intoxicated driver struck a pedestrian and gave her "serious" injuries Sunday on Lacey Road, police said. Police accused David Winkle of striking a woman crossing the street, according to authorities.

The crash took place at 5:41 p.m. around Holmes Avenue, according to Sergeant Robert Flynn. The pedestrian was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. On the way there, she was alert but unable to supply identification.

Police asked the public for help identifying the woman, who they said is about 67. Anyone with info that could help identify her can call Lacey police at 609-693-6636, extension 2578.

Winkle, 40, of Forked River, was charged with driving while intoxicated, Flynn said. He was taken to Community Medical Center to receive a blood draw. Motor vehicle and criminal charges are pending, police said.
