John A. Coan, Jr. Of Forked River Dies At 66

Services slated for Tuesday and Wednesday

John A. Coan, Jr., age 66, of Forked River died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at home.

John was predeceased by his wife Mary Cusmano Coan and parents John and Agnes Coan of South Amboy. John was a 1966 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and a 1970 graduate of LaSalle College. He serve in the United States Army following college until 1974.

Professionally, John’s career spanned many areas of real estate. He worked as a municipal tax assessor and a tax appraiser privately, along with working for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. From 1996 to 2001, he served as a commissioner on the Ocean County Tax Board.

As an active member of the Lacey and Ocean County Democrats, John always enjoyed a good political debate. Devoted to his four children, John enthusiastically attended their activities and was very proud of their accomplishments. He was a perpetual student of the game of golf and especially enjoyed playing during his vacations in Florida.

He is survived by his four children: John, Mary Pat, Anthony, and Elizabeth and his sister and brother-in-law: Regina Coan Beirne and Raymond Beirne.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Layton’s Home For Funerals, Forked River. Relatives and friends may arrive Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at The Church of Saint Pius X, Forked River. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Stafford Township.
