The ice cream shop, located on Manchester Avenue and , is now closed for the season. Once school begins and the winter comes, less people look for a cold dessert, said Ellen Schack, owner of Cowabunga Ellen Schack.

“I personally think ice cream is for all year,” she said. “[The joint venture] is enabling us to stay open all year.”

After the success Cowabunga experienced selling ice cream on a boat on the Tices Shoal during the summer, Schack began to think of other ways to bring the dessert to customers.

“Ice cream is something we need to get to the people rather than wait for the people to come to us,” Schack said. “We’re going to see what the community wants and adapt to it.”

This joint venture is something that has yet to be done in town, Costigliola said. A variety of flavors will be offered at Anthony’s and the pizzeria will be delivering the ice cream to homes and businesses as well.

“We are very excited to now be available to our loyal customers year round. Delivering is something we always wanted to be able to do. This is a win,-win,” Schack said.

Costigliola said there has been positive feedback from customers so far. Anthony’s has sold ice cream in the store but has yet to deliver.

The ice cream will be served in cones and cups. Take out ice cream will be available in pints and in larger quantities for parties.

“Kids have been getting free ice cream samples while waiting for pizza,” he said.

Eileen Lombardo, who was at Anthony’s with her husband and infant grandson, has yet to try Cowabunga’s ice cream.

“If Cowabunga’s is top-rated ice cream then Anthony’s must be top-rated pizza because we’ve tried every local pizzeria,” she said. “It’s a good idea. We could one-stop shop.”

Anthony’s, which is located at 403 Route 9 in Lanoka Harbor, is open Monday through Thursday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, the pizzeria is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more information or to make an order call 609-242-2844.
