Lacey House Rental Listing Ends Up A Scam: Police
The scammer listed a house for rent on a 'popular website.' according to police.
LACEY, NJ — A rental listing for a Lacey house turned out to be a scam, according to police. The scammer listed the home on a "popular website" authorities said after taking the report of fraud Wednesday morning.
After finding a house for rent located in Forked River, which appeared to be legitimate, the complainant made contact with the reported owner. The potential renter completed a residential renter application and lease agreement contract.
Then he or she became suspicious of the listing's validity before making a deposit through PayPal. The complainant then learned they weren't dealing with the actual owner of the property.
