Lacey Officers Bike To D.C. For Police Unity Tour

The Police Unity Tour raises awareness about law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

LACEY, N.J. — Four Lacey police officers and one Ocean County Sheriff's officer woke up bright and early to bike to Washington, D.C. They're participating in the 2019 Police Unity Tour, which raises awareness for law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

Detectives Charles May, Adam Ewart and Brian Flynn, Patrolman Brian Holt and Sheriff's Officer Christine Woltman left Lacey police headquarters at 5 a.m. Thursday for the tour. They joined fellow officers at state police headquarters in Trenton.

The bike ride runs from Thursday to Sunday. The first leg of the tour ends in Atlantic City. They will arrive Sunday to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. Once there, families of fallen officers and their own family and friends will greet them.

Each officer raised funds over the past several months for the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. Last year's line of duty deaths totaled 163 nationwide, according to Lacey police.
