Lacey Police Begin Wearing Body Cameras

All uniformed officers and sergeants in the Patrol Division began wearing them Tuesday morning.

LACEY, NJ — Lacey police officers began wearing body cameras Tuesday morning. All uniformed sergeants and officers in the Patrol Division will wear them, and all interactions during official duties will be recorded, says Chief Michael C. DiBella.

Lacey police implemented the cameras for the following reasons, according to DiBella:

  • transparency and creating additional trust between police and the community
  • protection from false claims
  • they capture good work from officers
  • they may increase crime and DUI convictions
  • body-camera video can be used for training

Police will wear the cameras on their upper body.
