Lacey Police Promote 16-Year Officer To Sergeant

LACEY, NJ — The Lacey Township Police Department promoted Michael Verwey on Thursday to sergeant. Verwey, an officer for 16 years, officially received the rank at a township meeting.

Verwey lives in Lacey with his wife and children. He graduated from Donovan Catholic High School and holds a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Lacey PD hired Verwey in 2013 after he worked for the Medford and Burlington City Police Departments. He was assigned to the Patrol Division for the past seven years.

Verwey holds the position of field training officer and is a member of the Ocean County Regional SWAT team and Fatal Accident Support Team. He has also received the Kimberley Smith Ames DWI Prevention Award and the Jason Marles DWI Award.

Lacey had an open patrol sergeant position because of Sgt. Michael Eden's retirement.

"Like all of our officers, Sergeant Verwey is committed and dedicated to protecting the residents of Lacey Township and we could not be more proud of him," Chief Michael C. DiBella said in a statement. "I would also like to thank his family who supported him throughout his career, and especially during the testing process."
