Lacey Township High School Drama Club Presents "The Drowsy Chaperone"

The High School Drama Club performs "The Drowsy Chaperone" tonight

The Lacey Township High School Drama Club will be performing the musical comedy "The Drowsy Chaperone" beginning tonight.

The play, directed by Acting Teacher Brian Stike, is a show-within-a-show about a musical that comes to life while the Man in Chair listens to a recording of "The Drowsy Chaperone," a fictional 1928 musical comedy.

The show is about Janet Van De Graaff, a showgirl who is going to give up her career to marry Robert Martin, an oil tycoon. But Janet is the star of the show "Feldzieg's Follies" and the chief investor hires two gangsters to break-up the wedding.

Stike said he chose this show because it is ensemble driven and a musical comedy, something the Drama Club has yet to do.

"I consider our strengths every year and look for a show that's going to grow and challenge us," Stike said.

He described "The Drowsy Chaperone" as a fun show.

The Drama Club will be performing "The Drowsy Chaperone" on April 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. and April 9 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
