FORKED RIVER, NJ — Curious about what's going on with the Forked River Beach Living Shoreline Oyster Reef Project? The American Littoral Society is holding a meeting this week for community members to hear the latest updates.

The meeting, set for 7 p.m. on April 6 at the Charles A. Smith Community Center (15 E. Lacey Rd.), will cover what has been done so far and what is yet to come.

Since 1995, the Forked River Beach area has lost more than a hundred feet of shoreline, according to the Littoral Society, and the rate has accelerated.

This living shoreline project creates new oyster reefs that will improve water quality, reduce erosion and create habitats for more animals.
